Keeping in line with our objective to benefit the community, Prosper has recently helped raise $12,000 for Maegan Martin, a 27 year old Provo city resident with Multiple sclerosis (MS). Maegan's current insurance wouldn't cover the purchase of two walking aids that she desperately needs. The fund raiser, run in part by Bryan Mangum -a Prosper employee and friend to the Martin family- raised $4800 in one day by holding an event that featured a silent auction and services auction, as well as food, quilts, furniture, artwork and other sales tables. Before the event took place, Prosper agreed to help raise the total $12,000 needed for Maegan's walking aids.
Bryan Mangum, Prosper employee and co-organizer at the event, said this about the fundraiser, "When the people on the [fund raising] committee and in the community heard about the generous offer from Prosper, it seemed to push people far beyond what they thought they could accomplish in helping to raise the funds for Maegan to get these experimental apparatus for her legs." He also commented that people felt the goal of $12,000 was reachable because Prosper agreed to fill in whatever money was lacking at the end of the event. Bryan recalls the feeling he and many others had at the event for Maegan, feeling that anything was possible and that small miracles happened hour after hour as they got closer to realizing their goal. One such instance was when they looked at the tip jar for the hot dog vendor who was at the event and noticed that people were giving $100 bills for their $1 hot dog.
After the event raised the $4880, Prosper agreed to donate what was needed to get to $12000. Maegan and her husband Brian came to Prosper to pick up a check of $7120 from Ethan Willis CEO of Prosper, Randy Garn EVP of New Business, and Jason Coulam COO and President of Prosper. Each posed for a photo commemorating this important memory for the Martins as they left feeling for the first time that things were going to be ok.
